Description

The Superga Basilica dome climb leads up a spiral staircase of 131 steps to the outer balcony, where Turin, its valleys and the mountains spread out below you.

The Superga Basilica dome climb ends on a balcony outside the cupola, high above Turin. Getting there means winding up a spiral staircase of 131 steps, a short ascent of about 15 minutes that takes you to the highest viewpoint in the city.

Seen from almost anywhere in town, the dome of Superga is one of Turin's best-known shapes. It rises roughly 75 metres over a circular drum pierced by windows, and the daylight they let in plays across the interior in changing patterns of light and shadow. Inside, the climb is a close look at a historic Baroque structure rather than a view from far away.

From the top, the view runs over Turin's streets, the Alps on one side and the plain on the other.

  • The panoramic dome and its external balcony
  • Church and Cappella del Voto open to you at no extra charge

Good to know: the climb is closed in bad weather or strong wind, and it does not suit children under 6, wheelchair users or anyone with claustrophobia or vertigo. Tours of the Royal Tombs and the Royal Apartments are separate.
