Description
The Merenda Reale at the Caffetteria Reale in Turin turns a coffee-hour pause into a short trip back in time. The cafe is housed in Turin's Royal Palace, in rooms that belong to the museum, and the hour is a nod to Piedmont's great confectionery tradition.
The centrepiece is a cup of hot chocolate made to an 18th-century recipe, with water and dark chocolate. With it comes a selection of artisanal pastries, seven pieces per person, the kind that are good for dipping.
- Savoiardi and baci di dama, plus torcetti and canestrelli
- Also brutti ma buoni, amaretti, meringues and torroncino, with the famous diablottino
- Two typical Turin chocolates
The experience lasts about an hour. A postcard goes home with you as a keepsake. It suits anyone who wants a taste of a royal custom.
Extras are not included. It does not suit vegans, people with food allergies or those who are lactose intolerant. The host speaks English, Italian and French.
