Description

Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, simply "Corso Vittorio" to the people of Turin, is the long avenue that crosses Turin from east to west for 4.2 kilometers, from the Ponte Umberto I over the Po to Piazza Rivoli, passing in front of Porta Nuova station.

The oldest stretch, toward the river, is lined with arcades full of stores. Along the way you pass the Arco all'Artigliere by Pietro Canonica at the entrance to the Valentino park, Piazza Carlo Felice, the monument to Victor Emmanuel II in the square named after him, the Art Nouveau villas of Crocetta, and the former Le Nuove prison, now a museum.

Palazzo Gualino, built in 1928 near the Valentino, has bars on its ground-floor windows: the people of Turin nicknamed it "le Nove d'l Valentin," like the prison.
