Description
The equestrian monument depicts a soldier on horseback atop a granite pedestal, which rests on a stepped base. Surrounding the base is a series of high reliefs with military decorations. The rider gazes to his right, with his rifle slung over his shoulder, holding the reins in one hand and a banner in the other. Created by Pietro Canonica (1869-1959) in 1923, the work was solemnly inaugurated the same year in the presence of authorities, and then moved to its current location in 1937.
