Description
This Stupinigi and Sacra di San Michele tour leaves Turin behind for two historic sites outside the city, with a live guide. A small snack is included, and entrance tickets are not.
First comes the Hunting Palace of Stupinigi, raised in the 1730s following Juvarra's plans, who may never have done better. The outside has been restored. Inside you find the Museo d'Arte e Ammobiliamento, with art and furnishings brought from other Savoy residences.
Next is the Sacra di San Michele, a stern fortified abbey perched on a rocky hill. The way up to the church is a climb of 150 steps lined with 12th-century sculptures, beginning at the Porta dello Zodiaco, a Romanesque gateway adorned with zodiac signs. Inside, frescoes from the 16th century show New Testament themes on the left and the church's foundation on the right. When the weather is clear, the ramparts and terraces around the church look out over wide views.
